Green spaces
We’ll be retaining large parts of the existing agricultural land and converting this into public open space and recreational land, including a substantial ‘landscape buffer’ at Thorpe End. The fields today are a sterile monoculture. This will be replaced with a rich diversity of ecologically beneficial planting to create sustainable native wildlife habitats.
A series of ‘green corridors’ will be created. These will form part of a network of green corridors linked to the surrounding areas, including the county wildlife site at Racecourse Plantation / Brown’s Plantation, Triangle Wood and the countryside beyond, bringing significant long term environmental, amenity and recreational benefits.
The shallow valley that runs through the proposed housing development will be retained and may provide the opportunity to include swales, ponds and wetland areas.
Together, all these green spaces comprise around 50% of the Brook Farm area.
We’d like to know who you think should own and manage these.
